Q&A

To get a better feel for why we do what we do, check out the following brief Q&A with our IT Consulting practice director, Tim Kaercher.

Q: What is IT Consulting?

A: Depending on who you are talking to, IT consulting can mean many different things. At its core, IT consulting is the process of figuring out how an organization is utilizing technology or how they would like to utilize technology on a daily basis. The IT world encompasses everything from personal computers and business networks to telecommunications and web site development. It transcends everyday business operations and extends into a realm that most people take for granted. To understand IT is to understand where the world was without it and how its existence has created new opportunities both personally and professionally.

Q: Why is IT Consulting important and relevant?

A: Clients are searching for better ways to do the same work they have been doing for decades. However, better doesn’t always mean different. IT brings with it a process of enhancing a current strategy or implementation to increase the efficiency of the work. The common workforce has become blended in age, skill set, education, goals, and objectives; IT allows the entire spectrum of a workforce to become united through communication, workplace efficiencies, better working environments, shorter work days, and job security as a result of increased profits for their organization. The primary goal of IT consulting is to create an environment where all people can thrive with the same technology and tools to improve their professional lives while improving the organization they work for.

Q: What do you find most interesting about IT Consulting?

A: IT consulting is the newest niche market in the professional services industry and, at its core, exists to improve the efficiencies of enterprises. The greatest aspect of IT consulting is being presented with an IT issue of an existing informational system or the identification of a need that was previously unidentified and figuring out how to best satisfy the request for the lowest cost. IT has no boundaries as the sky is the limit for new developments, enhancements of current technologies or different uses for mature products. When there’s no limit to the possibilities the results can be incredible and that’s very exciting for everyone!
